Random uncalled-for fears

So, I got an email this afternoon from my church.

We’ve been going to this church since April, and joined officially in September.

Email is simple, they just want to introduce recent new members to the congregation at both of the services on sunday.

So why in the world am I getting this scared feeling in my stomach about this?

I really don’t know. But that’s the response it provoked.

I don’t know what your church does, but at ours, new members are often asked to stand at their seats so people can see who they are. To me, that seems innocuous, but I’m sure that there are people who absolutely dread having that many eyes on them at once. If you’re really worried about it, you could call and let them know–surely they won’t want you to be uncomfortable about it. 🙂

I love seeing new members at my church.
We call them to the front.
In some ways, it is like a pledge we make to them, as they make one to us. To be apart of a local church means being committed. It is no small step.
And being committed to a person means to see them through good and bad times.
But, most importantly, it is representative of Christ. He is committed to His Bride, the Church. On a small scale, we have an opportunity to express that joy in a tangible way.
