coming back to my spell of random tangents..
20 Then God said, “Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind.” 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that scurries and swarms in the water, and every sort of bird—each producing offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 Then God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply. Let the fish fill the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.”
23 And evening passed and morning came, marking the fifth day.
24 Then God said, “Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind—livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and wild animals.” And that is what happened. 25 God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to produce offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good.
So fish just get told to have a lot of them… but birds got told to have variety. And yet, isn’t the sea where there is supposed to be the most species variety?
Also, notice… the birds were producing offspring of their own kind… in the same day… before they were even told to multiply. And they didn’t even get directly told to do so… but the fish did. Maybe it was just a test with the birds and he liked how it worked out enough to tell the fish to make their own kind too…and the land animals.
But the land animals.. they are told that they can make their own kind… but they don’t get told to be fruitful and multiply.Just birds, fish, and humans. Wonder if thats why we have less bears than bees.
The sea mammals must have been weird though…. that first night being the only warm blooded things on the planet.
26 Then God said, “Let us make human beings[b] in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”
this reigning part must have seemed like a nice joke for the first while out of the garden facing these animals you are supposed to have reign over.
28 Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it
I wonder if people in the past ever dreamed we would actually fill the earth. i mean, columbus wasn’t that long ago in the scheme of things… and even in the wild west days this might have seemed far fetched. but, we’ve now gotten ourselves spread out just about everywhere…. even Antarctica… and chopped it all up into governed areas. kinda amazing when ya think about it.
29 Then God said, “Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food.30 And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground—everything that has life.” And that is what happened.
see, we were supposed to eat fruit… only fruit has seeds by classifications. that lettuce? its for the rabbits. lol
1 So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed.
not just the earth… everything in the heavens was done with too.
8 Then the Lord God planted a garden in Eden in the east
he planted it… didn’t just say let there be. interesting that the garden got more focus… but then, this was the immediate home area for his humans… their bedroom if you will… their personal area. so maybe makes sense.
18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.” 19 So the Lord God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man[f] to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one. 20 He gave names to all the livestock, all the birds of the sky, and all the wild animals. But still there was no helper just right for him.
just interesting that the earlier mention put the humans after the birds… where here he is forming birds to show adam. maybe more birds?
and no fish got named?
and i’m thinking of all the poorly named webkinz of my daughters… i wonder if god winced at some of the names.
